Nature Boi- The New Old Kanye
“The New Old Kanye?!
So like, College Drop Out ‘Ye or like 808’s and Heartbreak‘s ‘Ye? Or maybe My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ‘Ye... yeah that’s it, ‘cause I know he ain’t talkin Yeezus ‘Ye.”
The above reads pretty much as my exact thoughts when I checked my email and saw a new track track from Nature Boi. We’ve followed Nature here at theEVRYDYWKND for some time now so I wasn’t really sure what to expect but that only gave me more reason to press play.
As soon as the track starts it becomes very clear the ‘Old Kanye ‘Ye’ Nature boast to be the new incarnation of. College Dropout/Late Registration ‘Ye was the concept, but let me explain. At this point we’ve got an era appropriate sample looped with the prerequisite high pitched vocals to match (think Through the Wire) and a snare building to the impending drop. Nature kicks the verse off making it clear he’s got the ego of Old Kanye and as a producer and writer he’s got talent to match.
“screaming who the fuck ‘gon stop me/ always coming first, Super Head couldn’t top me/ Nature so cocky, I’m a dick I’m a asshole/ I’mma be that way, ‘til ego match the cash flow”
...And he doesn’t stop there, the verse continues to explain Nature feelings of being underestimated. As the verse wraps the sample mellows and it’s made clear the naysayers can either get with it or get lost.
New sample and completely different flow seamless transition from the prior beat. This sample is more Late Registration-esque, big horns, big drums, and more adornments for the sample as we saw later in Kanye’s production trajectory.
I’m not sure if Nature was paying homage or making a statement to the naysayers with this one but it’s dope either way. After a few session listening to more music he’s got in the clip it’s safe to say you should keep it locked here for more dope from Nature Boi.
