MITMondays: Stay T.R.U.

This week for MITMondays we’re going to focus on Kae-9’s debut project entitled Stay T.R.U. The Landover native delivers a powerful message over smooth, soulful production. This was definitely a thought-provoking album that left you wanting to do/be better. You know one of those cool out, pour up and talk to your squad about life kind of albums.

The project starts of with 11.25(Thoughts in Motion). This track sets the tone for the album with the chill vibes. You can tell that Kae-9’s thoughts were really in motion for this one. Covering various topics to how kids just aren’t kids anymore, how people really change up on you and how people really aren't looking for skilled rappers any more, but just focused on what’s the hottest. My favorite part about this song is the honesty displayed when Kae-9 admits he made a couple of detours along the way but that’s not going to stop his journey for greatness.

A couple of songs later he reminds us why he grinds so hard. Not for the fame or the accolades, instead he grinds for the ones that need him most. Kae-9 echoes the sentiment that you have to stay focused and not worry about what others are doing while grinding. Your going to take a couple of hits but just don’t drop the ball and keep your mind on the end goal. Next up is my favorite song on the project, R.I.P. The Pimp. Its no surprise this song is paying homage to the legendary Pimp C. With this one you definitely feel like you riding around Houston with the line “I’m just riding around the city with my tank on E, bumpin’ Underground Kingz, Bun B, Pimp C.” The Houston theme continues with Jungle Cup Interlude. Kae-9 definitely gave us that chopped and screwed vibe with this one.

The track Say A Prayer had one of the more powerful messages on the project. Kae-9 came across two individuals who were down on their luck. Both instances came with a conversation that left him thinking how could he help. What’s interesting is that each initially asked for money but ended up denying the money and just asked for him to say a prayer for them. This speaks volumes to the fact that both individuals realized they needed more than just money to get out of the situation. As the project comes to a close, he reminds us that its penmanship over censorship because he doesn’t censor sh*t. Lastly, Kae-9 tells us that When The Beat is Gone nobody should shed a tear.

Kae-9 gained a new fan with this one. His beat selection was dope and it went hand in hand with his wordplay. I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us down the line. To grab your copy of the album hit Kae-9 on social media and he'll pull up on you Master P style. Remember to Stay T.R.U. As always…
