MITMondays: Is Logic Really The Biggest Rapper From The DMV?
Last Week Rolling Stone Magazine sat down with Logic for an interview. When asked about his rise to fame he responded with a soliloquoy about the struggles of being a white rapper and how the DMV didn't really show him love at first. He goes on to end his rebuttal by saying,"I am arguably the biggest rapper from back home." Reading the DJBooth article that touches on this while riding the train last week had me thinking... Is Logic really the biggest artist from the DMV right now?
I'm going to start off with this, Logic claims to be the bigges, not the best. If he said he was the best I would have no other choice but to tell he him how wrong he is about that one but that's an article I hope I don't have to write. With that being said, I can understand why Logic would make that point. His first week sales exceeded expectations. By moving 250k in the first week, Logic finally removed King Kendrick from the top of the charts. By the way there are no other DMV artists putting up those kinds of numbers. Personally, I don't believe Logic is the biggest rapper from the DMV and to be honest I don't think he believes it either. If he did believe that he was the biggest rapper from the area, he would have said it instead of throwing in that adverb "arguably".
At this very moment, the only rapper bigger than Logic from the area is Wale. Despite only moving 22k albums his first week with his new album Shine, he still is the face of the DMV rap scene. I guarantee if you ask people in and outside the DMV who the biggest rapper is,the response more often than not will be Wale. Wale is undeniably the face of the DMV music scene who puts on for the DMV the most.
I respect Logic for bringing this up because he deserves to be in the conversation, I just can't hand him that title yet. After a close look he is definitely ahead numbers wise number to but Wale remains the most notable rapper from the DMV. As Always...
