MITMondays: Drake Really Might Be The Lebron of The Rap Game
After a long hiatus I am back in my writing bag. The anticipated return of MITMondays is finally here. For those who are unaware I had to put this series on the back burner due to the fact that school was getting the best of me. Now that I’ve graduated lets get it right into it. Drake really might be the Lebron of the rap game.
A few podcasts ago we discussed the Grammy nominations with a few good men of The Most Known Unknown Podcast. Ab pointed out how the Grammy’s really don’t like Drake. After he broke down how every year Drake is nominated for 3 or 4 categories but rarely takes home the gold, I started thinking. Maybe Ab is right, maybe Drake is the Lebron James of the rap game.
If you look at the numbers it makes sense. As of right now Lebron is 3-6 in the Finals. We can agree that as an artist receiving a Grammy is the equivalent of receiving the coveted Larry O’Brien trophy. Drake currently has 3 Grammys but has been nominated a staggering 35 times. Both Lebron and Aubrey continue to fall short on their respective biggest stages yet they are also the ones who garner the most attention in their fields.
We can’t turn on anything sports related without seeing and hearing about Lebron James. It could be the middle of July, basketball season is long gone, but ESPN will report that Lebron is at his sons basketball game. At his sons game?! Why is that relevant?! Who cares?! Nobody! The same goes for Drake as well. We can’t go a week without hearing a TMZ report on Drizzy or seeing a post about him on from The Shaderoom.
We all know that these two are the best in their respective fields making this quite the fair comparison. Both will undoubtedly go down in the top 5 of their field. It’s actually too easy of a comparison to make. I know Drake is going to get a few more Grammy’s but I don’t know if I can say the same for Lebron. Hopefully he can pull one off in Lakerland. As Always…
