MITMondays: Big Sean Disappoints
Big Sean and Young Metro dropped a new project a few days ago entitled Double or Nothing. This is Metro's second joint project with a single artist in the last couple months. the first being with 21 Savage. Unfortunately, this is the second subpar release Sean Don has given us this year. Big Sean touched on a plethora of important topics but there was something missing the project.
So I'm just going to get straight to it, this project seemed forced. Nothing was cohesive and Sean doesn't sound like he belongs on metro's production. The beats were fire as always but as I said hearing Sean over them was off. I knew I wasn't being to hard because one of my friends who is a huge Sean fan said it was terrible. With that being said, this was one of those things were it sounds like good idea but it doesn't work out in the end. The few songs I did enjoy were because of the features and not because of Sean. Features included 2 Chainz dropping off some dope bars as he continues his epic 2017 run and we get a solid verse from 21 Savage. I just want to know who told him this So Good song was a good idea. I usually enjoy Sean's punchlines but they weren't hitting for me this time. Also Kash Doll's verse was trash. It felt like a Nicki verse where she was just dropping line after line about her pussy. On the song Reasons Big Sean starts off singing. I was ready to turn the song off but I wanted to hear Swae Lee's verse which wasn't hitting for me either. On this song he kinda sounded like Jeremih when he came on the beat. All in all I give this project 2 out of 5 Dylans.
Even though i haven't been to high I on Sean lately, I was trying to figure out why my love for Sean has seems to be disappearing. After going back and listening to older projects, I realized he switched his flow up. During the Finally Famous era when my love for Sean was based on cadence and rhyme style, both of which are different now. If you don't believe me go back and listen to Finally Famous 3 then listen to the two projects he dropped this year. There is a notable difference which is why my love for Sean has decreased. It's just not the same , I know we all say we miss the Old Kanye but I also miss the Old Sean.
