MITMondays: ADÉ - ALWAYS SOMETHING
This week ADE who is formerly known as Phil Ade dropped an EP entitled ALWAYS SOMETHING. ADE just inked a deal with Epic Records which I feel is long overdue and well deserved. Being that ADE got low on us for a minute, the rollout for the project was centered around a missing person posters asking for our help to find Phil. I thought that this was a genuis idea but I wish the rollout was a little longer so the project could of gained some more buzz. This EP has 6 tracks and quite a few features that are strategically placed. One interesting thing about this project is everything is capitalized. That has been a trend that I’ve noticed quite a few artists have implementing. Lets getting into the actual music itself.
ADE comes out the gates strong with the intro track PLAY SOMETHING. This track is less than 2 minutes long but no bar is wasted and gems are dropped. My favorite lines are, “N*ggas telling they Goku, me I’m Piccolo I get my green through these Protools“, “Couldn’t style p if you was in a group with The Lox “ and “I ain’t from the V but all the n*ggas you see from me are 2 up”. The following track is no slouch either. SOMETHING NEW featuring Lil Baby allows ADE to flex his lyrical prowess with ease while Lil Baby is a perfect juxtappse stylistically that helps elevate the track as a whole. On the next track SOMETHING FROM NOTHING, the tempo is a little more upbeat . This is one of my favorites on the EP for multiple reasons. The first being the beat is amazing. The second is that I actually like Rich the Kidd’s verse. Lastly, ADE once again comes through with a strong showing.
As we pivot to the second half of the project, I found the stand out track for the album in my opinion. The track is entitled SOMETHING SWEET and it features Fatman Scoop. this track is genius because on the chorus he remixed the chorus to Lose Control while having Fatman Scoop featured is simply gold. Sidenote if you are unaware who Fatman Scoop is I need you to do your googles. The final track on the project is entitled SOMETHING REAL. This track features verses from arguably two of DMV’s biggest stars, Wale and Goldlink. This was definitely a strong way to finish out the EP as both Wale and Link both floated on their verses.
All in all I enjoyed this projected. It is good to have ADE back in the forefront of the DMV music scene. I’m interested to see the route he takes now that he is a signed artist adding to the list of talent here in the DMV. On a scale of 1-5 Dylans I have to give him a 3.5. As Always….
